Deep Creek Mt June '08

Two days after the boulders we took off to pilot valley to take Greg's Thesis work instruments down. Because we were already out in the middle of no-where we decided to make a longer trip out of it and head to the Deep Creek Mountains. It's a mtn. range out in the middle of the desert that you can only get to on dirt roads (k, not just dirt roads, but 50 miles of dirt roads to get there). We had two reasons to go... 1. the little streams coming down the mountain have Lake Bonniville Cutthroats in them, and 2. the mtn range has Ibahah peak that is over 12,000 ft tall (its on Greg's list to climb). We camped up granite canyon next to a fun little creek. We wanted to catch some of the almost extinct fish... were able to find some small little pockets that held only one to two (4-8 inch) fish. We ate pigs in a biscut, my little creation that makes hot dogs edable :-) And definitly broke out the smores! I love camping if there's sugar!!! In the morning we took the 4-wheeler up the canyon as far as the trail went and found that to hike that mountain would be a 2-3 day backpacking trip so we thought better of it, but would like to go back and try it.

As the sun was setting over the Deep Creeks

Our camp. We slept in the truck bed which was somewhat lucky cause the wind blew like crazy that night!

Greg's monster bonniville cutthrout

The stream was about 2 ft wide but i was able to pull this 8 incher out!

The tallest farthest back peak with the snow is the one that Greg and I will be standing on one day!
